This year has seen so much activity that it will be nice to pause for breath when we get to autumn here in the UK. However, some sunflowers I put in pots in March are now towering above the fences and guttering around the bungalow I am in, their yellow flowers still speaking of the sun. And the sun will meet the new moon in a partial solar eclipse on Sunday 21 September or Monday 22 September, depending on where you are around the world. This eclipse is in the final degree of Virgo, the last of the six signs focused on the individual, indicating that major soul growth is possible over the next six months, and reminds us to replenish our own energies before giving to others. Solar eclipses are always on a new moon, and are like extra powerful new moons. Flashes of insight and course corrections which happen without any conscious effort on our part are said to occur in this period, astrologically, which lasts until the full moon on 6 October.
Virgo is a mutable Earth sign, in other words a flexible earth, such as sand, constantly shifting, adapting, finding practical ways to adjust our physical reality. Mental dexterity in making our plans and efforts fit a realistic goal, and carefully discerning the actual state of something, truthing what is really so. Virgo solar eclipses are great times to begin new organisational systems, such as using task managers like the app “Things”. Decluttering waste, both in our online and digital worlds, and in our physical world. This could take the form of streamlining our routine, stopping those doing tasks which no longer inspire us. It might involve a deep cleanse of our home and especially our workspace. Virgo rules our work. It can also involve detoxifying our physical bodies, be that through such things as enemas, heavy metal detoxes, exercising until we sweat, and all forms of dieting such as intermittent fasting are areas which you might like to consider starting. Virgo can be a bit of a worrier, and starting a routine of regularly processing fears, worries and anxieties could also be beneficial at this point. Purification is a key Virgo theme.
This eclipse is in the final third of the sign of the Virgin, and is a south node eclipse but is quite far (11 degrees) from the south node; so releasing patterns in these areas is also a possibility. Any patterns we have of martyrdom, and ensuing resentment, along with exhaustion and control may become extremely noticeable to be released at this time. Dropping karmic patterns, such as giving beyond our capacity to give, and hooking others into cycles of codependency can arise. Look at where we offer or receive unsolicited service, and even promote reliance on support which was never asked for. In this Virgo context, side effects of so-called “medical” assistance may arise, to be dropped, for instance. Saviour entanglements too. Nurture yourself before giving to others.
The eclipse trines Pluto, suggesting that passionate ideas and emotional intensity can be used to purposefully transform our daily lives, and corruption could be uncovered. It is trine Uranus, implying that a sudden desire for freedom from our routines is easier to act on than usual.
Saturn and Neptune both oppose this eclipse. Saturn has retrograded into Pisces, giving a last systems check to our dreams, mystical awareness and artistic efforts, before heading back into Aries fully in February. The Lord of Time, Saturn, checks our routines and daily structures serve us, given where we say we want to go. Have we imprisoned or hampered ourselves with pointless activities? Is our healthcare routine really helping us? Is our day job satisfying, or is it time to move on?
Neptune is still in Aries, before a brief return trip to Pisces from 22 October to 26 January. The Dreamweaver asks us to reimagine our daily life, to drop uninspiring activity. Stocktaking. Do you feel you have outgrown your environment? This aspect can support grounded mystical insights and artistry, and resonant healing approaches.
On 20 February 2026, Saturn and Neptune will meet in their only conjunction in the first degree of the first sign, Aries. At that point, whole new cycles of pioneering practical mystical and artistic adventures are indicated. This eclipse is a great opportunity to begin decluttering and purifying ourselves to prepare for using the energies of that conjunction.
While all of this is happening, the Grand Air Trine which was activated in August is reactivated. Uranus in Gemini, Mercury and then the Sun in Libra, and Pluto in Aquarius work together to provide an ideal launchpad for revolutionary visions and manifestations.
Fingers of God (or Yod) involving Mars in Libra (with Saturn/Neptune, and Uranus), and Venus in Virgo (with Saturn/Neptune and Pluto) The Mars Finger of God indicates that our collaborative actions are being carefully assessed in terms of how practical and imaginative they are, and some shocking and unexpected communications could inform changes of activity. The Venus Yod implies that these our love life and finances are also being carefully assessed for its practicality and how inspiring it is, while the Lord of the Underworld, Pluto, is carefully checking for any skeletons buried away which need to be resolved before these areas can flourish.
Overall, this eclipse encourages us, in my view, to do a thorough systems check on our routines, and purify and replenish ourselves, especially on a physical level, before the whole new movement begins when Saturn meets Neptune in April on 20 February 2026.
